Dear Friends,

We are midway through September and it is time for me to admit that summer is truly over. But, it was such an extraordinary few months I haven’t wanted to let go!

When I last sent a full newsletter I reminded you all that I was heading off on my annual summer writing retreat and wouldn’t be returning to full time media work until fall. Well….that’s not exactly how it happened.

In July and August I had the unbelievable opportunity to sit-in as a guest host on MSNBC for both The Rachel Maddow Show and The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell. I cannot begin to express how much fun and how much work this was! I have gained an entirely new perspective on the extraordinary efforts of the women and men who put together quality, analytic, political news programming. In this newsletter I am including links to some of my favorite segments.

I didn’t do much public writing over the summer, but I have been busily promoting the new book. Sister Citizen is available. It’s in stores. It’s on Kindle. It’s available for order online. I hope each of you have a chance to read it and let me know what you think. It has been and will continue to be wonderful to travel around the country in the next few months discussing and introducing Sister Citizen to new audiences.

This summer I also spent a great deal of time preparing for my class on Women in Contemporary US Media and Politics. I’m enjoying teaching my first students at Tulane University and working to launch my new Anna Julia Cooper Program in Gender, Race, and Politics in the South.

Oh yeah…and I also got rattled by an earthquake, narrowly missed a hurricane, and got soaked in a tropical storm. It was quite a summer.

As always, your support and encouragement make such a difference.

The book is available from Amazon (Kindle too), Barnes & Noble and Indie Bound.
